Claim Resources & FAQs
All The Things Hail-Chasing Contractors' Salespeople Won't Tell You
For a Complete Hail Claim Resource, Get the INSIDER'S GUIDE TO HAIL CLAIMS
Many hail-chasing contractors' (especially roofers) sales strategy is to rely on your lack of knowledge and gullibility. The more informed you are, the less likely you are to fall for their tricks and schemes. Further, the more informed you are, the better decisions  you can make for yourself...and the less stressful the challenge of your hail claim will become. The information on this site was prepared for you with this in mind.

And, in addition to the resources below, make sure you get a FREE copy of the e-book INSIDER'S GUIDE TO HAILS CLAIMS. It will provide a more comprehensive look at the hail claims, the pitfalls, the process, and help you decide the best option for handling your specific claim.

Let's Take the Stress & Uncertainty out of Your Claim!

After 100s and 100s (I've lost count) of hail claims managed from beginning to end, I've compiled the resources every homeowner needs to be able to approach their claim and contractor selection with confidence and not fall victim to the inherent issues in the process or to an unscrupulous contractor.
Best of luck with your hail claim,

Common & Costly Pitfalls
Shady Contractors
PITFALL #1: Contractors hide their identity because they are shady, have little credibility, or both...and, to top it off, they press hard for your signature. Learn how to recognize shady contractors.
Gimmicky & Illegal Offers
PITFALL #2: If they are knocking on your door, be wary of gimmicky and illegal offers. Gimmicky and 'free stuff' offers can put you in peril in ways you won't realize up-front.
Deficient Claims
PITFALL #3: By the nature of how adjusting is done and how the claim process works, almost all claims are missing items and therefore the claim allowance is low, sometimes very low.
Roofing / Claim Scams
PITFALL #4: Just when I think I've seen it all, someone comes up with a new claim-related scam. You won't be able to recognize them all, but you can begin to recognize the signs of whether the contractor rep is honest and acting legally.
Cutting Corners
PITFALL # 5: Let's face it, contractors are in the business to make money; it's not to do free work. Therefore, learn some of the signs that would tip you off to a contractor cutting corners somewhere in the process or doing something illegal.
Fast or Done Right?
PITFALL #6: Be wary of promises of 'fast'. In some situations claims can move relatively quickly. In a lot of situations, if you do things thoroughly and do not cut corners, the claim process simply ends up taking longer than expected.
The YCA Claim Process
Hail Damage Assessment
INSPECTION & ADJUSTMENT: The best way to start a claim is with an independent assessment followed by the insurance adjuster's assessment. It's always helpful to know what to expect in this assessment stage and what to do if the adjusters doesn't see things your way.
The Claim Process
MANAGING THE CLAIM: Once the adjuster does his original assessment, he'll produce his estimate. This is almost always missing items and low...typically by $1,000s if not $10,000s. How do you reconcile the claim with the insurance company to get everything due under your policy?
The Restoration Process
THE REPAIR WORK: Whether your approved repairs are just the roof or roof, gutters, and a bunch of other things, you don't want corners cut and you don't want unexpected surprises. Understand the repair process and appropriate contractor expectations after a hail storm.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why Bids Are Irrelevant
NO BIDS NEEDED: Despite what some people will tell you, most hail damage repair work does not need a homeowner to get bids. In fact, that might be detrimental to you. Find out why and what you should focus on instead.
What's My Deductible
DEDUCTIBLE: One little term that seems to cause a lot of confusion. What is a deductible? How much is your deductible? Who pays it? Who cannot pay it. When it is it paid? To whom is it paid?
How Does the Money Work
THE MONEY: It's common that homeowners form expectations based on what they thought a roofer or an adjuster told them, then later they find they've run out of money before they run out of repairs. Don't let this happen to you.
